Great Britain comes one-step closer to securing a Winter Olympics medal in curling. Earlier today, the UK men’s curling team managed to beat former world champions Norway.
Despite betting sites’ gloomy predictions, Great Britain was able to run through Norway’s squad with ease, ending the match 10-3. This is probably Britain’s best game so far in the PyeongChang games. It seems that Norway’s aim was a little bit off while Brits brought their A game.
UK’s skip Kyle Smith was the star of the match, leading his team to an incredible victory.
During his post-match interview, Kyle said, “It's just pleasing we've managed to put a good string of wins together now, and we're in a position where we're in control of our own destiny. It gives everyone else a bit of confidence in us as well, I hope. We've always believed in our own ability.”
He then added, “It feels like we're getting better with each game. That's three wins back-to-back, so we know a win over the USA will see us into the semi-finals.”
The UK team currently shares the second place with Canada, as both sides have five wins and three losses. The leader on the Round Robin standings is Sweden, and they are the only ones that qualified for the playoffs.
Britain faces the USA on Wednesday in the final game before the playoffs. If they manage to beat the USA team, Great Britain will qualify for the semi-finals, which start on Thursday.
