Today’s Betfair review is inspired by the biggest player in the gambling market operating the world’s largest betting exchange. They boast a rich games library, unique starting bonuses and great customer support behind it all. So let’s dive in together and have a deeper look at their offerings to learn whether they’re worth your time or not.

Humble Beginnings

Before they were dictating the world of online bets and leading the scoreboards, Betfair was a small struggling business dependent on bank loans to survive. Betfair started out in the UK in June 2000, founded by Andrew Black and Edward Wray in London.

The company was funded by Softbank at first because they couldn’t find any backers. After many years of struggle and sheer dedication, Betfair managed to rise up among the competition with the invention of the “In-Play” betting system, now popular among all the other betting websites.

The company was even listed on the London Stock Exchange in October 2010, estimated at £1.4 billion pounds. Here’s a fact you won’t find on any other Betfair reviews out there: in 2007, Betfair created its own Betfair Radio service, which has evolved over time into Timeform Radio, one of the most popular horse racing radios out there. The company also moved offices to Gibraltar in 2011 to avoid the high taxes in the UK.

Betfair Recently

In 2016, Paddy Power, one of the largest Irish betting websites, acquired Betfair, and the two companies merged into one entity called Paddy Power Betfair with headquarters in Dublin. However, the two companies maintain individual operations. If you'd like to compare their sites, you can check out our Paddy Power review listed on the reviews page.

Getting to Know Them

The account registration process is a simple, quick process. If you look at the top right side of the screen, you’ll find a big black ‘Join Now’ button. Once you click on it, a pop-up will appear, divided into two sections, demanding your basic info such as name, date of birth, address, phone number, email, city, and country.

Betfair Review

Something else you won’t find in any other Betfair review is the special 2018 promo code, ‘EXCN10.’ Right next to the personal info, you can choose your username, password, security question, and Betfair account currency (the euro or pound, the US, Hong Kong or Australian dollar or the Swedish, Norwegian and Danish kroner).

After you’ve completed the form, you can then proceed to your email, where you’ll find an account confirmation email. Once you click on it, you’re taken back to the main page, where you just have to log in and you’re done. Compare their sign up process with Smarkets in any Smarkets review on the web and you’ll see the difference.

Is There Something Special?

Betfair’s promotional offers are full of surprises, and it seems there is no end to them. The first interesting one is the Free £20 Exchange Bet. To qualify, you need to make a deposit, and if it’s your first one and you lose, you get your money back for all deposits up to £20.

Another that really rises above others in our Betfair review is the ACCA Boost that grants you up to a 50% boost if you play ACCA bets until the end of September. Be aware that the bonus rises with the number of legs on your bet.

Betfair Review

There is also a £100 in Free Bets Bonus that might be enticing to the newly registered punters. You just have to make five £10 bets and they claim you can get £100 in Free bets. However, this is the part where you’ll be happy you have our Betfair review with you. Upon reading the fine print, we found out that you have to play five £10 games in order to get £20, and then you can repeat that process five times and try to win the £100 bonus, which is certainly different from what the ad says.

Betfair also has a great offer for everyone who’s in it for the horses. If you are a newly registered customer and your horse goes odds on in-play and loses, you will get your wager equivalent in cash back. If you'd like to compare it with other sites, you can check out our Bet365 review on our reviews page.

In the end, if you refer friends and they become regular customers, Betfair offers you £20 for any new customer you refer to them. The offer is valid only for the first five referrals.

Your First Deposit

If you choose to pass on the signup bonus offers, you can deposit your funds after registration. The deposit process is easy and instant, so you won’t have any trouble with it, unlike the one at Coral for example. If you want to compare their banking process, you can find our own Coral review from our betting sites review page and see what we're taking about. All you have to do is find the Deposit button in the header section. A menu will appear, and you can choose your payment method and amount, and then you’ll have to enter a special verification code.

The payment methods on Betfair include Credit/Debit Cards, WebMoney, Neteller, Skrill, Bank Transfer, and PayPal. We used Skrill, and our deposit was instant. Although the process is quick and easy, Betfair could really benefit from including more payment methods and thus attract more customers.

Let’s Play

Now it’s time for a small Betfair sportsbook review in which we will showcase all the options and bets you have on the Betfair website.

Once you log in you’ll find all the games tucked in a drop-down menu on the top of the page. Betfair offers 31 sports and events you can bet on, including American football, athletics, Australian rules, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, cricket, cycling, darts, football, Gaelic games, golf, greyhound racing, handball, horse racing, mixed martial arts, motorsports, rugby union and the Special Bets section. This offering is great, especially considering most of the competition can’t reach them (check out Ladbrokes or any Ladbrokes reviews out there).

Betfair Review

Once you choose your favourite sport, you can click on it, and the list of all the current matches will appear in the centre of the screen. You can place your bets from there, and once you do so, a small pop-up slip will appear on the right side where you can enter the betting amount and confirm the slip using the button below. Choose wisely, since the bets can’t be changed or cancelled once they are placed.

You can view bets from your Betfair sportsbook page, which you can access on the top left side of the page. From there you can track bets and ongoing matches or races.

Navigating Around

The website has an elegant overtone design that consists of gold and black colours. The website is riddled with flash banners, special offers and suggested matches, but somehow it doesn’t seem too much or tacky. The navigation is easy and you have all your important links and sections organised in drop-down menus. We’re not alone in this opinion either, you’ll find other Betfair reviews praising the looks, loading speeds, functionality, and layout.

The left side of the page usually contains your bet slip, while at the centre of it, you’ll find all the suggested matches for today. The top right side contains login and signup buttons, and once you complete that, you’ll find your balance, My Account and Deposit links in the same spot.

In the bottom of the page, you’ll find all the links pertaining to legal issues: terms and conditions, cookie policy, privacy policy, security and Betfair’s mobile app page. If you compare the UI/UX with any other website (for example, any Betway reviews out there), you’ll find Betfair being far superior.

Apart from the desktop version, there is also a mobile website that runs perfectly. If you want to store Betfair on your phone, you might consider dedicated Android and iOS apps. They can both be downloaded from their stores or from the Betfair homepage.

If you download the app, you get a special signup bonus, cash out options, In-Play bets and a special Price Rush Boost that boosts your bets even after you’ve placed them. The wide array of options it offers forced us to put it into our best betting apps list. If you check out any other websites or their reviews (especially William Hill reviews) you’ll see Betfair is miles ahead of the competition.

Cashing Out

Withdrawing money is as easy as depositing. All you need to do is click the My Account link located in the top right corner of the page. A drop-down menu will appear, and you’ll have to click on My Betfair Account. After that, click on the Withdraw Funds button, enter the desired amount and you’re good to go.

The same goes for the mobile app. The ease of the process would earn Betfair a high rating if it wasn’t for the three-hour waiting period when withdrawing. However, note that they are still better than some other websites out there in terms of waiting time.

Am I Safe with Them?

Upon reading the Terms and Conditions, we feel assured that Betfair runs a tight ship when it comes to security. Both the testing for the Return to Player and the Random Number Generator percentages are audited and tested by third-party contractors.

At this point in our review, you might ask yourself ‘Is Betfair safe for me?’ You’ll be relieved to know that they employ the latest 128-bit SSL encryption technology and they’re proud to hold the international Information Security Management ISO27001 certificate.

As for the problems that might arise from irresponsible gambling, Betfair offers a comprehensive page with all the necessary info and programs available to its users. There are guidelines on how to recognise the problem in yourself or others, a budget calculator tool that helps you keep track of your spending and your own personal Betfair diary.

One source of praise that you can find in any other Betfair Exchange review is that they have a great Gamcare program that pretty much serves as a hotline for customers with a problem, as well as an awesome Take a Break program that lets you freeze your account anywhere from 24 hours to 30 days.

The Support Behind the Fun

As with everything else, the customer support at Betfair is quite decent. You can contact them via live chat or telephone, and they are even active on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. It’s worth noting that if you come across an occasional Betfair Trustpilot review, you’ll find many customers complaining about inadequate, rude customer support.

Our experience was quite different. When we reached the customer support via live chat, they were happy and willing to help. They offered a fast and knowledgeable response and resolved our issue in a matter of minutes. The overall experience was quite satisfying, and we’re quite sure that you won’t have any problems reaching them at all.

Conclusion

We’ve done everything we could to give you the best Betfair review out there. No matter what, we gave you the most objective and independent look into their operations. The games library, bonus offers, user-friendliness of the website and the overall customer support experience are definitely worth your time and money.

It definitely wouldn’t hurt them if they included more payment methods. However, everything else is so good that we’re ready to include them on our best betting sites list. Anyway, Thank you for your time and your consideration. We hope we didn’t waste your time and that our Betfair review helped you make the right decision.
