On April 8th, we had a chance to watch a fantastic 2018 China Open finals in snooker. The final round of the tournament featured two elite English snooker players – Selby and Hawkins. Both players are ranked in the world’s top 10, with Hawkins ranked 6th and Selby at the throne of the table. Selby’s brilliant play in the finals helped the player retain his title, and defeat Hawkins 11-3.
On his path to the finals, Selby’s first opponent, as well as the first tournament win was against Scotland’s Scott Donaldson. The Jester from Leicester then defeated Ben Woollaston and Lyu Haotian to reach the quarter-finals. Selby’s quarter-final opponent was Mark Williams. The Welsh lost to the world’s number one 2-6.
In the semi-finals, Selby met with Kyren Wilson. Wilson proved to be a fierce rival, and at one point, the two players were tied. However, Selby reminded the world why he is among the best snooker players by winning the last two frames. The game ended with a 10-8 result in favour of Selby.
At the final stage of China Open, the only thing that stood between Mark Selby and the tournament trophy was Barry Hawkins. 36-year-old Hawkins previously triumphed over Australia’s Neil Robertson 10-6. Judging by the first frame, which Selby lost, the game was going well for Kent-born snooker player.
Despite Hawkins’ success at the start of the finals, Selby soon changed the game flow with a 5-1 lead. Not much has changed by the end of the first session, except that Selby secured an even more significant lead, 8-2. The final result was 11-3 for Selby.
By winning 2018 China Open, Selby walked away with a £225,000 cash prize and 14th ranking title in his career.
The Leicester player’s winning rate is almost impeccable, as he won 11 out of 12 last finals he played in. The strong favourite of the best betting sites in the UK is in top form. As Selby recently confirmed, he is ready for the World Championship, which starts on April 21st.
