The first Liverpool’s match of the International Champions Cup didn’t go well for the club’s goalkeeper, Loris Karius. Namely, for the past few months, the German goalkeeper has been under the spotlight, and for all the wrong reasons.
He made a huge mistake during Liverpool’s final tie against Manchester United. Since then, Karius has been waiting to make up for that mistake. Yesterday’s match between the Reds and Borussia Dortmund did not go in favour of the 25-year-old.
The International Champions Cup started on July 20th. Liverpool’s first rival was Borussia Dortmund. Despite the Reds’ efforts, Jurgen Klopp’s men lost the match. In the post-game analysis, the Liverpool’s net defender received a lot of attention. The memory of Karius giving two goals away to Manchester United in one of the most important matches of the season doesn’t seem to be fading away. Even though the German suffered a concussion during that game, his skills are still subject to criticism.
Karius’ confidence seems to be a bit shaky. He made a mistake, and to get out of the phase he’s currently in, he needs excellent performances. That didn’t happen during Liverpool’s clash with Borussia Dortmund. Even if Karius were brilliant during the game, he would still have to prove himself before he can finally get some distance from the Champions League nightmare.
Jan Oblak and Alisson were the two top candidates on best betting apps in the UK to replace Karius after the Champions League final fiasco. Liverpool eventually brought Alisson in, and the Reds boss doesn’t shy away from acknowledging everyone that the Brazilian is his first choice. The best thing for Karius would be to stay with Liverpool and don’t make any moves for now.
Karius’ friends and colleagues are defending the goalkeeper from all the negativity he’s been facing recently. Iker Casillas and Mohamed Salah offered words of support to the 25-year-old. Casillas is taking efforts to defend Karius. Among other things, the Spaniard said, “Leave the kid alone! He's also a person. As we all are!”
