2019 is going to be a fantastic year for horse racing fans. Why is that, you ask? Well, Championship Horse Racing (CHR) is working on a new race format called the Series.
The new format will be a team-based competition, first of its kind in the horse racing history. The Series will bid 12 teams against each other over a period of eight consecutive weeks. The races will be held on various Group 1 racecourses on Thursday evenings.
Furthermore, every team will consist of a head coach, four jockeys, and 30 horses. The competition will have a point system similar to the Formula 1. Finally, the CHR plans on having 48 races during the whole event, and each race will offer over £100,000 in prize money.
It will be interesting to see how UK betting sites handle bets for this format. Will we get an option to bet on teams or just place regular bets on horses? It seems that we will have to wait for another year to find out.
The Series received praise from everyone in the horse racing world. A highly respected racehorse trainer John Gosden said, “The Series is the most creative and positive racing sponsorship opportunity I have seen, and I hope it will become a tremendous success.”
Additionally, Simon Bazalgette, the chief executive of the Jockey Club, endorsed this competition as well. He added, “The Jockey Club is all about the long-term health of British racing, so The Series is something that makes complete sense for us to support.”
The only bad thing is that we will have to wait until summer 2019 to watch this incredible event.
