Just a couple of days ago, it was unknown which teams will meet in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Following the 3-0 triumph over Chelsea on Wednesday, March 14th, Barcelona has made it into the next stage of the competition.
The star of the match was Lionel Messi. The Argentine football player scored two goals during the game and ensured Barca’s place in the quarter-finals.
Right off the bat, the Spanish club took the initiative. Messi secured Barcelona’s lead by scoring a goal in the third minute of the game. Just 17 minutes later, with Messi’s assistance, Ousmane Dembele scored another goal for Barcelona. In the second half-time, Messi sealed Barcelona’s victory by scoring yet another goal 63 minutes into the game.
During the game, only one Barca player got the yellow card. On the other hand, Chelsea saw three of their players getting a yellow card from the referee, Damir Skomina. However, there were no offsides or red cards during the game.
Even though Chelsea lost the game, they’ve fought well. During the match, Chelsea had 44 dangerous attacks compared to Barcelona’s 26. Additionally, they managed to get four shots blocked as well.
The Nou Camp star, Lionel Messi didn’t just celebrate Barcelona’s victory over Chelsea last Wednesday. During the match, Messi scored his 100th Champions League goal. Messi is a second player to achieve this milestone, while the first-ever player with this record was Cristiano Ronaldo.
With betting sites’ favourite Barcelona coming in the quarter-finals last, we now know which eight clubs will be competing at this stage.
We’ll see Barcelona and Roma clashing on April 4th and April 10th. On these same dates will see two games between Liverpool and Manchester. Juventus and Real Madrid, as well as Sevilla and Bayern will meet on April 3rd and 11th.
This year’s finals will take place in Kyiv on May 26. But, before the finals, we have many exciting matches to look forward to.
