Last week was an emotional roller coaster for all boxing fans. Cancellation of the most anticipated fight in the recent years, featuring the rematch of GGG and Canelo, because of ban-substance allegations was a shock to all fans. The reason is that Canelo tested positive for clenbuterol and decided to withdraw from the fight.
As you can imagine, boxing fans were not happy. But one man stepped up to save the day, the UK native Billy Joe Saunders. A couple of days ago, his manager Frank Warren confirmed that the GGG vs. Saunders fight is in the works.
Frank said, “We have had conversations with Golovkin's camp and will speak later today and see where it goes.”
However, there is one problem with this matchup. Saunders is currently injured and can’t even train until April 14th. On the other hand, GGG wants to fight on May 5th, because this was the original date for his bout with Canelo.
Of course, Joe’s manager and team addressed this issue and proposed a fight between the two in June. In his recent interview, Frank Warren said, “I understand they are looking at 5 May in Vegas, but I am not sure if they will find an opponent or sell a show out in such a short space of time. I am hoping they will take the fight, then we can do it here or go to the States, but that will be their call.”
Whether this match comes together or not, we are not sure. However, this would be one epic boxing bout. Both Saunders and Golovkin are undefeated, making it hard to predict who will be the betting sites’ favourite. But there is time for that; we just hope that the two parties agree on the date and book the fight.
